Harry Styles is getting ready for the debut of “My Policeman
Harry Styles, a Grammy winner, is getting ready for the debut of “My Policeman,” one of his most eagerly awaited movies. The 1957-era romantic period drama centres on a love triangle between museum curator Patrick, teacher Marion, and police officer Tom (Harry Styles) (David Dawson).
Styles explained what drew him to the story, saying, “It’s not like ‘This is a gay story about these guys being gay.’ It’s about love and about wasted time to me. It’s obviously pretty unfathomable now to think, ‘Oh, you couldn’t be gay. That was illegal (in the 50’s)’. I think everyone, including myself, has their own journey with figuring out sexuality and getting more comfortable with it.”
While there are intimate scenes in the movie, Styles believes they are less important than the emotional love-making between the gay couple. The actor explained how the filmmaker Micheal Grandage wished to represent gay intimacy: “So much of gay sex in the film is two guys going at it, and it kind of removes the tenderness from it. There will be, I would imagine, some people who watch it who were very much alive during this time when it was illegal to be gay, and Michael wanted to show that it’s tender and loving and sensitive.”
The movie follows Tom’s emotional journey
The movie follows Tom’s emotional journey as he weds Marion despite still being in love with Patrick. Unlike the hide-and-seek game, which causes desire and regret, the reunion of the trio in 1990 gives them one final opportunity to make up for their misdeeds.
The film “My Policeman” is based on the 2012 book of the same name by Bethan Roberts. The movie, which stars Harry Styles, Emma Corrin, Gina McKee, Linus Roache, David Dawson, and Rupert Everett, will debut in a few theatres on October 21. On November 4, it will then be available to stream worldwide on Prime Video.
