Matt Araiza and two other football players from San Diego State are charged with gang rape
Matt Araiza and two other football players from San Diego State are charged with gang rape. The Los Angeles Times reported on the lawsuit. The alleged gang rape took place at Araiza’s house in October 2021 during an off-campus party. The victim was 17 at the time of the incident.
Araiza is charged with both participating in a gang rape within the house and raping a youngster outside the house. Zavier Leonard, an offensive lineman for San Diego State, and Pa’a Ewaliko, a former defensive lineman, are also mentioned in the lawsuit.
The alleged victim is now 18 years old
The alleged victim, who is now 18 years old, claimed that Araiza gave her a drink that, in addition to alcohol, she believes contained “other intoxicating substances.” The gory details of the lawsuit are available in The Los Angeles Times. A trigger warning for sexual violence is included with this.
According to the lawsuit, the teen told Araiza she was a high school student. He could see she was highly intoxicated, he took her outside and told her to perform oral sex, then had sex with her. Then Araiza took her to a bedroom where Leonard, Ewaliko and at least one other man were, the complaint alleged, and threw her down on the bed face first. The lawsuit said she was raped for an hour and a half until the party was shut down.
The teen “stumbled out of the room bloody and crying. Her nose, bellybutton, and ear piercings had been pulled out, and she was also bleeding from her vagina.”
The victim reported being raped to her friends
The victim reported being raped to her pals right away. The next day, she went to the police and underwent a rape examination.
The LA Times provided the following unsettling information on the lawsuit:
At the request of police, she made pretext calls — recorded by detectives — with the men named in the lawsuit whom police “had determined were present in the room when the rape occurred.” Araiza, the complaint alleged, confirmed on a call in late October that they had sex and recommended she get tested for a sexually transmitted disease. Later in the conversation, she asked him, “And did we have actual sex?” Araiza allegedly changed his tone and replied, “This is Matt Araiza. I don’t remember anything that happened that night.”
Because she is a suspected rape victim, the accuser, who has not been named, provided images to a local television station that show bruising on her neck and leg. She has attacked the university and the local police for their sluggish handling of the probe. Given that girl was a minor at the time of the alleged encounter, the males might possibly be charged with statutory rape.
“I know I was not at fault,” she told the news station. “I know being a 17-year-old girl, almost unconscious 90% of the time in a room with several guys, bloody, and going in and out of consciousness is not something that was consensual.”
Matt Araiza was a standout punter for San Diego State
Last year, Araiza was a standout punter for San Diego State who received praise across the country for his strong leg. The Buffalo Bills selected Araiza in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, giving him the moniker “Punt God.” During the preseason, he earned the Bills’ starting punter position.
The Bills claimed to be aware of the legal action. The group told the LA Times when contacted for comment. As this is an active civil lawsuit, we will have no more comment at this juncture.
