Teresa Giudice explains why she first declined the “DWTS” audition after her stint in prison

On Dancing with the Stars, Teresa Giudice, 50, is prepared to cha-cha her way to the Mirror Ball Trophy. Teresa has joined the competition series’ season 31 cast, though it turns out that she has previously been requested to take part. The Real Housewives of New Jersey star said during a virtual press junket:  “It’s better now because I remember years ago I got asked when I came home from — I hate to say the word — prison, I got asked to be on Dancing with the Stars as soon as I came home.”

Teresa Giudice served 11 months in prison

Teresa, who served 11 months in prison for fraud up until December 2015, said she was “struggling” at the time to decide if she should compete on DWTS. She remarked at the junket, “The kids were still small and I just returned home and I didn’t want to leave them. I was divided between doing it and being on Bravo first, so I couldn’t do it in the end. Therefore, everything worked well, and then years later, it came full circle. So my participation on Dancing with the Stars was destiny.

The mother-of-four, who is partnered with professional dancer Pasha Pashkov this season, described her participation in DWTS as a “dream come true” because her late father Giacinto Gorga, who used to watch the programme with her, died away in April 2020. “I watched when my dad was living with me, and today’s my dad’s birthday. So it really was meant to be so. He’s looking down on me, and I know he’s really proud. We used to watch it together. He used to love watching the girl dancers.”

Teresa’s 13-year-old daughter Audriana competes in dance

Since Teresa’s 13-year-old daughter Audriana competes in dance, it goes without saying that the Bravo star has received some guidance now that she has decided to join the programme. “Audriana declared, ‘Make sure you have fun. Enjoy every moment. Feel your partner’s energy, and don’t be scared.’ And I’m like, “That’s easy for you to say,’ ” Teresa joked. ‘ “Dance like it’s your last time dancing, make the best of it,’ which I thought she was so cute. I have it in writing, so [that’s] something that I’m always going to share with her. I want all my daughters to be proud of me, and I want my husband [Luis Ruelas] to be proud of me.”
