Shooting occurred in Washington
A Chicago Police Department spokesman reported that a shooting occurred in Washington Park on Tuesday night, leaving one person dead and six others injured.
Conference held at the park
In a press conference held at the park across the street from the emergency room of the University of Chicago Medicine, Deputy Chief Fred Melean of the Chicago Police Department said that two groups of people were at the park just before 8 p.m. when a fight broke out and shots were fired.
Paramedics responded to the scene
According to Larry Merritt, a spokesman for the Fire Department, paramedics responded to the scene at East 51st Street and South Champlain Avenue and transported three men and a woman to hospitals.
According to Merritt, three of the individuals who were transported by EMS were in serious to critical condition and a fourth was in fair condition. He did not know whose hospitals they were brought to or their ages, but he did say that they are all thought to be adults.
Regarding the victims ages or health, Melean was unable to offer any additional information. As of Tuesday at 10:15 p.m., nobody was in custody.
