Chris Brown’s name was received with loud boos at the AMAs
Chris Brown won the ‘Favourite Male R&B Artist’ award at the recently concluded 2022 American Music Awards (AMAs) on 20th November. As soon as Brown was announced as the winner, a wave of resounding boos stemmed from the crowd. Singer, Kelly Rowland, who accepted the award on Brown’s behalf, tried her best to put a stop to the booing audience. In contrast to the audience’s sentiments, Kelly, the former Destiny’s Child member, shifted focus by acknowledging Brown’s contribution to the music industry. Kelly additionally told TMZ that Brown “deserves grace and forgiveness.”
Old friend of Chris Brown, Jordin Sparks comes out to defend Brown
American Idol winner Jordin Sparks was another such artist to lend support to Brown. She expressed to TMZ that the epicenter of focus should be on Brown’s musical talent and not on events of the past. The singer further stated, “People deserve to be able to grow and learn and be able to live their life without things hanging over them. Everybody deserves that … him [Brown] especially.” She believes that the executives of the American Music Awards ‘messed up’ by cancelling Brown’s performance at the AMAs. She re-iterated that “we love Chris!” It ought to be noted that Sparks collaborated with Brown to release their 2008 hit song – ‘No Air‘. The duo even performed the song together a couple of months back.

What exactly went down at the AMA’s?
Brown’s scheduled ‘Michael Jackson’ tribute performance at the AMAs was cancelled. The artists didn’t hold back and informed his fans of this last-minute cancellation orchestrated by the AMAs. Consequentially, the rapper couldn’t physically be present at the award ceremony to pick up his award for ‘Favourite Male R&B Artist’. The producers at the AMAs haven’t cited a reason for the cancellation of Brown’s performance at the time of publishing this article.

Speculated Reasons behind AMA snubbing Brown
It is speculated that the reason behind the isolation of Brown by the AMAs is the 2009 incident involving rapper Chris Brown and legendary artist Rihanna. In 2009, on the night prior to the Grammy’s, Brown assaulted his then-girlfriend, Rihanna in a Lamborghini. Rihanna was left with a bruised face, black eye, and a cut open lip. Brown was eventually sentenced to five years of probation, six-months community service and one-year of domestic violence counselling.
