Chrisley Knows Best stars Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley have found themselves at the epicenter of legal drama. The reality television couple were indicted in 2019 on charges of tax evasion. Now they await impending doom. Todd Chrisley could possibly face 22 years in prison while Julie Chrisley could face 12 years behind bars.

Why The Couple Faces Prison and What are the Charges imposed on the?

The power couple, Todd and Julie Chrisley have been accused of duping banks to be granted loans, indulging in falsified tax returns and evading paying taxes while living a luxurious lavish on the sidelines. Julie has additionally been allegedly involved in wire fraud and obstruction of justice. Prosecutors accuse the Chrisley couple of acquiring $30 million in loans by providing fake documents to banks. Later, the couple dusted off any responsibility to repay those loans by declaring bankruptcy. But there was just one catch – they continued to display their wealthy lifestyle to millions of viewers on their show, Chrisley Knows Best. They have further been accused of intentionally hiding their profits from the show from tax authorities and defrauding the IRS. Prosecutors branded the couple as ‘career swindlers’.

The Chrisley’s Lawyers Argue for a Reduced Sentence

On June 2022 the couple was adjudged guilty on counts of tax fraud. They were directed to house arrest and electronic monitoring till their sentencing which awaits them later today. U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross shall preside over the case. Todd’s lawyers argue that he shouldn’t face more than 9 years in jail while Julie’s lawyers feel that no prison time and probation would be a just sentence.

The Couple Maintance Their Innocence

In the couple’s defense, Todd’s lawyers submitted letters from friends and business associates that show “a history of good deeds and striving to help others.” Julie’s lawyers submitted letters depicting Julie as “hard-working, unfailingly selfless, devoted to her family and friend, highly respected by all who know her, and strength of character.” The couple maintains their innocence and has “nothing to hide.” Todd further added, “Not only do we know we’ve done nothing wrong, but we’ve got a ton of hard evidence and a bunch of corroborating witnesses that proves it.

What will happen Next with Todd and Julie Chrisley?

Lawyers cited the vulnerable position that Julie’s ailing mother-in-law and employees from their reality show would be put in if she faces prison time. Their show Chrisley Knows Best was recently renewed for a tenth season. Spin-offs of the show were planned as well. The fate of the popular reality television show depends on Monday’s verdict.
