Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3 Trailer Ushers In A New Era

GOTG Vol. 3 is set to be released early in 2023

Marvel recently released the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. It’s set for release on May 5th, 2023. It would mark the return of director James Gunn and become the second film in the much-awaited Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 5 films. The trailer hints at major changes to an era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here’s a breakdown of key moments from the trailer.

Who Is The Main Villain?

The main villain in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 is set to be the famous comic book character, the High Evolutionary. The antagonist is set to be played by Nigerian-British actor Chukwudi Iwuji. Much like Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord character’s relationship with Ego, the High Evolutionary exhibits a unique relation with Rocket Racoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper).

The High Evolutionary’s Relation With Rocket Racoon

In the Marvel comic books, it was the High Evolutionary that experimented on Rocket and made him a humanoid. The trailer exemplifies that relationship when we see Rocket as a terrified normal racoon before his experimentation. It suggests that Rocket Racoon will be central to the film plot.
In the opening scene of the trailer, the Guardians land upon a planet full of humanoids like Rocket Racoon. This planet possibly comprises many such humanoid experimentations of the High Evolutionary.

Why Could Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 Be The End Of An Era?

The trailer suggests to the audience that some sacrifices will be made in the film. Marvel is building it up to be the last Guardians film with all of its original members. In the trailer, Rocket Racoon is being framed to be the sacrificial character. He even says that he’s “done running.” This probably refers to him being done running away from the horrors of his origin – the High Evolutionary.
We also witness a possible love interest of Rocket Racoon in the shape of Lyla, the Otter.

The Arrival of Adam Warlock

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 ushers in the official arrival of one of the strongest superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – Adam Warlock. He was previously teases in post-credit scenes of previous Guardians of the Galaxy films. Played by Will Poulter, we witness Adam Warlock with a stone embedded into his forehead in the trailer. It’s left to see the character arc of Adam Warlock unfold. He will be a pivotal to the rest of Phase 5.

Adam Warlock also shares a relationship with the High Evolutionary in the comic books. It was the High Evolutionary that granted the Soul Stone to Adam Warlock. Simply put, Adam Warlock is the perfect creation.

What about Star-Lord and Gamora?

Many fans were left wondering the fate of the relationship between Gamora and Star-Lord. Since the version of Gamora (played by Zoe Saldana) post-Avengers Endgame doesn’t recollect any of her memories with Star Lord, this Gamora never fell in love with Star-Lord. Their interactions are one to look out for in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. Star Lord will most definitely try to win back his lost love but it’s left to see how this storyline moves forward.
