R. Kelly Biography
Robert Sylvester Kelly was born on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois to his mother, Joanne, who was a school teacher. Kelly has five siblings: two older sisters and a brother, along with a younger brother and sister. There is not much known about his father.
Kelly’s childhood was very troubled. He was sexually abused by his elder sister and by an older male who was a friend of the family.
In 1989, Robert Kelly, along with Marc McWilliams, Vincent Walker, and Shawn Brooks, formed MGM (Musically Gifted Men or Mentally Gifted Men). They recorded and released one single, “Why You Wanna Play Me?”, in 1990. Kelly got greater recognition when MGM participated in the talent show Big Break.
