Comedian and former ‘Tonight Show’ host Jay Leno returned to the comedy scene after suffering severe burns two weeks back.
Despite suffering burns, Jay Leno partook in ‘Crispy Humour’
Jay Leno made his return to comedy by performing at the Comedy and Magic Club in California. The comedy veteran had a sold-out crowd to welcome him back. Jay Leno shares a special bond with the Comedy and Magic Club as he’s performed there every Sunday ever-since 1978. Despite suffering serious burn-related injuries in a horror gasoline accident, Leno clearly didn’t lose his sense of humour. He joked with reporters that “I never thought of myself as a roast comic.” He additionally joked about his two shows for the night, two shows – “regular and extra crispy.”
Jay Leno’s encounter with a horrific gasoline accident
Comedy isn’t Jay Leno’s only love. He inhibits passion for cars and is the host of his own show, ‘Jay Leno’s Garage‘ ever-since 2014. On November 12th, car collector Leno was working on a steam engine under one of his cars. A gasoline fire unexpectedly broke out, leaving him with severe burns. He received second and third degree burns on his face, hands, and chest. He was soon transported to the Grossman Burn Center by an emergency fire response team. Here, he went under surgery and grafting.
Recovery is just around the corner
Although experiencing severe injuries, Jay Leno is expected to make a quick recovery. Doctors at the Grossman Burn Center exclaimed that the 72-year-old luckily escaped nerve damage. Despite being released from the hospital within nine days, he has to go back for procedural follow-up treatment. Leno stated, “I am okay. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.” He even got to make it back just in time for Thanksgiving, to spend it with friends and family. Going by recent public appearances, Leno is back to his usual eccentric and larger than life persona.
We wish him a speedy recovery!
