Armed Robbers Break-In Puts Sterling’s Family At Risk

Raheem Sterling was all set to play in England’s encounter against Senegal in the Round-of-16 of the Football World Cup. He would then come across unexpected and devastating news. He learned that armed robbers broke into his London family home where Sterling’s wife and kids stay.
Police received a call from the occupants of the house on Saturday night. They additionally reported missing jewelry and watches. An investigation has since pursued but Surrey Police state that “no threat of violence was involved.”

Raheem Sterling Rushes Back Home

After receiving news of the break-in, the English footballer understandably wanted to be there for his family. He chose to prioritize his family and their safety and headed back home. It was a last-minute call as Sterling was included in England’s squad and was almost certain to make a cameo against Senegal.

Raheem Sterling isn’t the only English footballer who has left for home during the ongoing World Cup campaign. Earlier, England and Arsenal centre back Ben White left the English camp due to ‘personal reasons‘.

Shoulder Of Support From Fellow Teammates

England captain Harry Kane publicly supported Sterling’s decision. He stated, “our thoughts are with him and his family. It’s a private matter but it’s never easy to see one of your teammates and friends deal with something like that.” Kane additionally gave his best wishes to Sterling and his family and hoped to see his fellow teammate soon.

England manager Gareth Southgate re-iterated that the England team supported Sterling’s decision to head back home. Southgate exclaimed that family ought to come first as “sometimes football isn’t the most important thing.” “At the moment, clearly the priority is for him to be with his family. We’re going to support that and leave him to have as much time as he needs…It’s a situation that he needs time with his family to deal with, and I don’t want to put him under any pressure with that,” Southgate further added.

Will Raheem Sterling Return To The World Cup?

Sterling’s return to the England camp remains uncertain. He had grabbed a goal in England’s 6-2 victory over Iran in the group stages.

England thumped Senegal with a decisive 3-0 win. Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka found the back of the net for England.

The Three Lions will now face France in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Football World Cup at Qatar. England previously lost out to Croatia in the semi-finals in the 2018 Russia Football World Cup.
