Ronnie Hillman, 31, tragically passed away on December 22 after a battle with cancer. On Wednesday, his passing was revealed following TMZ’s allegation that he was receiving hospice care. Ronnie’s family informed the media in a statement that he had passed away.

 “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother & father, Ronnie K Hillman Jr.. Ronnie quietly and peacefully transitioned today in the company of his family and close friends.”

1. Ronnie Hillman had a remarkable career

From the very beginning of his career, Ronnie had been a superstar. He was selected in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft and naturally went on to a prominent career as a running back for the Denver Broncos, where he participated in 48 games. He defeated the Carolina Panthers with the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50 in February 2016, and he then left the team in September of that same year. Ronnie later played for the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys, but his memorable victory with NFL icon Peyton Manning still stands as his most important professional achievement.

2. He’s beloved by his teammates

Former teammates of Ronnie have been sending him well wishes on social media while he was receiving hospice care. On December 20, 2022, Ronnie Hillman’s teammate with the Broncos, Orlando Franklin, tweeted, “Please pray for Ronnie Hillman, he’s in hospice and not doing well.” It’s “not looking good,” according to Derek Wolfe, a former teammate, who reportedly told 104.3 The Fan on Tuesday, Dec. 21.

3. Ronnie was a high school athletic star

Ronnie, according to his Wikipedia article, became a dominant athlete in high school. He distinguished himself early on at La Habra High School by earning letters in basketball, football, and track. He then transitioned to professional football after playing for the San Diego State Aztecs.

4. He comes from a family of faith

On December 21, the family of Ronnie, who was battling a rare cancer, issued a reassuring message. The family’s Instagram post read, in part, “As a family, we hope beyond hope, and we have faith that can move mountains.”

5. Hillman was diagnosed in August

The NFL legend has reportedly been battling the illness for months and was initially given the diagnosis back in August, according to the family statement. In hospice care, he is currently being kept “out of agony.” Even if it’s challenging to spread this message, they stated that they felt it was essential. Ronnie received a diagnosis of renal medullary carcinoma in August of this year.

Fans of the former running back for the Denver Broncos will never forget his thrilling victory at Super Bowl 50 in February 2016. The football player from Compton, California, started his tremendously successful athletic career with the San Diego State Aztecs before joining the NFL.
