Christopher Nolan calls Robert Downey Jr. “one of the greatest of all time”

Robert Downey Jr. in Oppenheimer

Veteran director Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is set to hit theatres on July 21, 2023. In a recent interview with Total Film, the Inception director heaps praise on Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr.

Christopher Nolan Blown Away By Robert Downey Jr.

Christopher Nolan couldn’t praise Robert Downey Jr. It was prevalent that Nolan was blown away by Downey’s performance in Oppenheimer. “Watching him lose himself in that performance, and completely lose himself in a character in this way, was just an incredible reminder of just what an amazing actor he is.” Nolan goes on to exclaim how Downey is one of the great movie stars but how “it’s easy to forget” that he is also one of the greatest actors of all time. Robert Downey Jr. plays the character of Lewis Strauss in the much-awaited film.

Cillian Murphy Is Nolan’s Go-To Man

It is to no one’s surprise that Peaky Blinders actor Cillian Murphy is yet again in a film directed by Nolan. Be it The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception or Dunkirk, Cillian Murphy has featured in all of these Nolan masterpieces.

Christopher Nolan admitted that he made an exception to his rule of not having an actor in mind while writing a screenplay. The Tenet director disclosed that he has longed to grant Murphy a leading role instead of a supporting one in his films. Nolan rates Murphy as not only one of the greatest actors of his generation but of all time. He anxiously awaited this project to put his cinematic weight on his go-to actor. Nolan stated, “It was such a thrill to be able to call Cillian, and say, ‘This is it.’” The Irish actor is set to play the lead role of J. Robert Oppenheimer, ‘the father of the atomic bomb’.
