Nikki Finke On Starting Deadline

Beginning of “Deadline” at a time when the business model for independent internet publishing businesses was unclear was somewhat of a leap of faith. However, the website was a success, and in 2009, she sold it to Penske Media Corp., a firm founded by Jay Penske. Although she continued to serve as editor in chief, she and Mr. Penske eventually split up in 2013.

Hence, she began the fiction site in 2015 after engaging in legal disputes with Mr. Penske that led to an agreement that virtually forbade her from working as an entertainment journalist.
